Bulgarian astrologer Emil Leştanski  will be judged in Sofia for fraud and providing false information that led to a massive evacuation of the southern city, in April 2009, according to the decision rendered today by the District Court in Haskovo, reports Novinite.com site .
According to prosecutors, the alleged acts took place in Sofia, and therefore the defendant should be tried in the Bulgarian capital.

In 2009, a few days before Easter, Leştanski predicted erroneously that a devastating earthquake of magnitude 6 will take place in the Bulgarian town of Haskovo region.
The announcement led many people to flee their homes, forcing them to spend the night on the streets, and made a great profit for   the local insurance companies.
If found guilty Leştanski could receive a sentence of up to two years in prison.
However, as the astrologer has no criminal record, he could receive only a minor fine of 500 to 5,000 Bulgarian leva (EUR 250-2500).
